Our Story

Hello There!

My name is Marian and I am the Founder of Miss Marian Native Crafts. My Father died when I was almost two years old from a brutal attack from our Neighbour. My mother was left devastated with her 3 children and she was two months pregnant at the time when her husband passed away. Growing up, I witnessed my mother struggling to feed us. My two older sisters stopped studying and went to the City and look for a housemaid Job. Me and my youngest brother was left with our mother in the Province. My mother struggled every single day without complaints with humility. At an Early age (maybe around 5 years old) I saw her WEAVING baskets, have sleepless nights just to finish her baskets and then I saw her when I woke up at Dawn, kneeling at the Altar PRAYING. I saw her doing that almost every other Dawn (but I Knew she was doing it every dawn).

There was a time that I helped her Weave Baskets so that we can Buy Rice or Corn. Aside from Weaving, she managed to take care of our Backyard animals at that time. We have a Cow, Goats and even Pigs. We really struggled at that time. Weaving has been the Primary source of Income for most families in our community. I even helped gathered raw materials and helped them Weave at that time.

Fast Forward, I grew up as I have witnessed how hard it is to live in the Province in the same situation as before, I vowed myself to not get Married early and not choose a husband that is coming from our community. I really wanted to Grow and I want to escape the Life we had before. From Taking care of the Farm, the backyard animals, weaving and a lot more but rest assured my childhood was really fun even though we have encountered difficulties in our lives.

I even vowed that I do not want to WEAVE anymore because of the LOW income (though it really helped us before). With patience, determination and faith in GOD, I was able to pursue  my college education and get my Diploma. After I Graduated, I looked for a job, was hired few months but the Salary was too LOW. I wanted to have my own business but I neglected where I was coming from. I neglected the place that Helped me grow as a women and enjoy my childhood. When the time I fell on the ground, seems like my shoulders are already tired of carrying problems (financial even though I already had a job). I was still struggling and hoping I could improve my life and help my family get out of poverty. I went to SIMALA, SIBONGA, CEBU (miraculous shrine of Mama Mary), as I am a devout Catholic, I went there several times, Praying fervently, heartily to

Mother Mary to help me choose what business should I want to open. I want to open up a Business and I don’t want to Work anymore to other companies. I just really wanted to help my family but

I don’t know How. My salary was way too low for me to even feed myself, how much more for my family, my mother who has been struggling to feed us after my father died.

So I went to ask the intercession of our Holy MOTHER MARY and after few months of Praying and praying, I finally realised “What if I will offer to the world our Eco-Friendly Baskets” as what my Family used to do and my neighbours until now. I know it’s from God’s Mercy that he let me have this Business. I was so optimistic when I started MISS MARIAN NATIVE CRAFTS even though I don’t have much of a Capital. I didn’t even afraid of losing. I am only looking the good outcome of our products since I was once a WEAVER, I used to weave so I know what I am selling about.  True enough, after starting this business, clients kept coming in and I was so happy, but then problems arises and I did not foresee. I forgot to understand the weavers’ stance on the

availability. They are HUMANS and not machines and Ladies are OLDER now and only Few of the Weavers are still weaving up to these days. Clients who don’t understand our situation, got mad at us but I did not run away, instead, I faced with with humility and acceptance and trying fix what was the root cause for it.

Many times I wanted to give up, but I found my strength to get back up again with HELP of my LOVING GOD, I was able to stand. When I see my neighbours still struggling with Low income from weaving, my heart suffers and I realized – the WEAVERS Needed me and I want to help them.
